A Justice Department Veteran Explains Why Trump Can’t Suppress the Mueller Report

WASHINGTON — As Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s Russia investigation continues into 2019, anticipation builds around several questions, most notably: What will Mueller’s final report say? And will it ever see the light of day outside the halls of the Justice Department?

The Washington Post reported Wednesday that the top lawyer in the Trump White House had hired 17 attorneys as part of a strategy to suppress the release of the president’s most sensitive discussions with his closest advisers — interactions that could reveal attempts made by the president to obstruct justice. The White House’s aggressive tack appears aimed at stopping any possible evidence of obstruction from finding its way into the hands of House Democrats — or from appearing in a public report laying out Mueller’s findings.

A second mysterious repeating fast radio burst has been detected in space

Far outside our Milky Way galaxy, something is causing repeating short bursts of radio waves to be released into space. Scientists have recorded the second repeating fast radio burst to be discovered, according to a study published Wednesday in the journal Nature.

The finding was also presented at the 233rd meeting of the American Astronomical Society in Seattle.

Two women charged with sexually assaulting a transgender woman in a North Carolina bar bathroom

Two North Carolina women have been charged with sexual battery and second-degree kidnapping of a transgender woman in the bathroom of a North Carolina bar, Raleigh police said.

The incident took place on the night of Dec. 9 at Milk Bar in downtown Raleigh, according to an offense report and 911 call made the next day. The caller, whose name was not released, reported that two women taunted, groped and exposed themselves to an unnamed victim in the bathroom.
