Lady Gaga in talks to star as ‘The Penguin’ in Batman reboot
It seems Lady Gaga is already reaping the benefits of procuring a Golden Globe acting award this year.
The failed pop star and former network television intern is reportedly negotiating for a role in a reboot of the Batman movie franchise spearheaded by Henry Selick, a close associate of Tim Burton’s. Burton directed the two Batman movies starring Michael Keaton in 1989 and 1992.
A source close to both Selick and Burton made the revelation, along with a leaked audition photo of the “G.U.Y.” “hit” maker in full makeup and costume as the quintessential Batman villain, The Penguin.
“She really brought it as The Penguin. Henry is quite intrigued by her performance as this Nouveau Penguin as she calls it. She’s definitely at the top of the list if they decide to write The Penguin as a nasal, monotonous, whiny, coreless, hollow, insincere, privileged, lying, self-entitled one-trick pony offspring of a mobster,” said the source.
The source further revealed that Lady Gaga got the audition after writing Selick a letter in which she gushed about her love and affinity for Batman villains.
“I have always wanted to be a Batman villain for as long as I can remember, since I was 13, actually,” Gaga wrote. “But music worked out first.”
While the Batman reboot is still in its initial stages, it is said to take the Dark Knight’s story in “a completely different direction” with refreshing new spins on familiar characters.
