Adele inspires IKEA couch line
Älmhult, Sweden The red floral printed dress that Adele wore to the 55th Grammy Awards ceremony in Los Angeles has provided Swedish furniture giant IKEA inspiration for a new couch line.
“We are still in the very early stages of product conceptualization, but we already have a very good feeling about it,” said the furniture chain’s chief design engineer, Thorbjorn Kalvorlsson, who watched Sunday’s ceremony live from Sweden.
Kalvorlsson said he was “mesmerized” by the “Set Fire To The Rain” singer’s Valentino-designed dress and “how it draped over and effortlessly accentuated and flattered her curvaceous post-pregnancy body.”
“I live and breathe furniture, so everywhere I go, I always look for inspiration,” said Kalvorlsson. “Adele gave me a boatload of ideas on Sunday.”
Given the company’s strict design and testing procedures, the new couch line will likely not be available at IKEA stores until at least 2015, but Kalvorlsson assures their customers that the wait will be worth it.
Tentatively called “ADELEVIG” in honor of the British singer, the couch line will be modular like all IKEA products and include a love seat, a futon, an Ottoman and a chaise, as well as sectional pieces.
Kalvorlsson said he has already initiated talks to get permission to reproduce the red floral pattern on Adele’s dress, which he says will be the couch line’s trademark look.
