Talengo: Someday, I'll get my burger.

Nairobi, Kenya - Dozens of impoverished residents were injured Sunday in a mad stampede that broke out after a cheeseburger fell out of a female tourist's purse in the village of Upak-Tumonra, 102 miles north of Nairobi.

American vacationer Beverley Daniels, who had just flown into Kenya from New York, said she was not aware she had the sandwich in her Louis Vuitton purse.

"I think I bought it four days ago at a McDonald's in Brooklyn," said the 48-year-old nurse. "I totally forgot about it."

The sandwich accidentally slipped out of Daniels' purse when she took out her camera to take pictures while touring the locale.

"All hell broke loose as soon as that cheeseburger was in plain view on the street," said local tourist guide Newton Amokmoku, 36. "Everyone just wanted a piece of it, and nobody cared if anybody got hurt."

Notono Obakamu, 45, sustained cuts and bruises on his arms and legs in the frantic fight over the sandwich, which ended up in his hands after he tore it from the grip of 7-year-old Bukbuk Talengo, an orphaned boy who broke a foot during the scuffle. Obakamu said he hadn't eaten in days and went into survival mode at the sight of sustenance.

"I'm not proud of what I did, but I did it to survive," said Obakamu. "Sometimes that's just how the world works."

Obakamu added that the mangled sandwich didn't turn out so good after all, which made him feel less guilty. "I had high expectations, but it was so bland. They (the other stampeders) didn't miss much," he said.
