Keith Urban ‘Horrified’ by Fan’s Alleged Rape at Recent Show
When Keith Urban uploaded a video to YouTube and Twitter last Saturday night, following a particularly rowdy concert in Mansfield, Massachusetts, he couldn’t have realized the gravity of his words.
“Gosh, up on the lawn tonight, that was nutso,” he said in the clip, which has since been removed. “It was so cool. If you came tonight, thank you very much for giving us all the love and energy.”
Things were certainly nutso at the Xfinity Center, a 19,900-capacity outdoor amphitheater located 30 minutes outside of Boston. Audience members began drinking long before the start of Urban’s set, resulting in a combination of boozy bacchanalia and drunken aggression that sent 22 people to the hospital. Meanwhile, 46 attendees were treated for alcohol-related illnesses, and more than 50 were arrested — including an 18 year-old male who reportedly raped a 17-year-old girl on the amphitheater’s lawn.
The teen pleaded innocent to rape charges, claiming the act was consensual. A trial date has been set for September 25th.
Urban, who hadn’t heard of the hospitalizations or arrests at the time of the YouTube filming, issued a response Thursday.
