Ikea has brilliant response to ‘lookalike’ Balenciaga designer tote bag with £1,600 price tag
If you love the way those big, blue Ikea bags look on your shoulder while you’re buying your meatballs, you can now get a designer one – but it’ll set you back.
Designer Balenciaga is selling a huge blue tote bag for a cool $2,145 – that’s about £1,600.
The Arena Extra-Large Shopper Tote Bag, available to buy on the designer’s website, is a familiar blue colour but is made of leather instead of that crinkly plastic.
However, the description does say it’s “blue, wrinkled, glazed leather” – so that probably gives it the Ikea effect.
Instead of splashing out on this, you could just pick up an Ikea tote bag for 40p – or $0.99 in the US.
The Swedish retail giant is well aware of the similarities and has had a brilliant response, releasing a poster explaining how to identify an ‘original’ Ikea Frakta bag.
“1) Shake it: If it rustles, it’s the real deal. 2) Multifunctional: It can carry hockey gear, bricks and even water. 3) Throw it in the dirt: A true FRAKTA is simply rinsed off with a garden hose when dirty. 4) Price tag: Only $0.99.”
