Meghan McCain slams Trump for “taking away” her ability to not look racist
Meghan McCain is sad. For months now, she’s been calling Muslim congresswoman Ilhan Omar an anti-American Jew-hater, going so far as to blame Omar’s rhetoric about Israel for tragedies like an April shooting at a San Diego synagogue. Obviously, all of her comments had a clear undercurrent of bigotry to them. But then Dotard Trump had to go and make the undercurrent of bigotry surrounding Omar completely unambiguous, and now McCain feels like she can’t attack the Minnesota lawmaker without being labeled a racist. It’s not fair!
“Everyone at this table, and I think, people that watch this show or have ever seen the dumpster fire of my interview with Seth Meyers, know I have been one of Ilhan Omar’s most vocal critics regarding Israel, regarding some of her comments I and others interpreted as anti-Semitic,” McCain said on The View Thursday. (Said dumpster fire referred to a May appearance on Late Night, in which Meyers called McCain out for her statements about Omar, leading McCain’s husband to call the host an “untalented piece of shit who only has his job because he regularly gargled Lorne Michaels’s balls.”)
McCain reveled in the role of anti-Omar truth-teller, at least until Trump tweeted that the Minnesota congresswoman—as well as Reps. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Ayanna Pressley, and Rashida Tlaib—should “go back” to the countries they came from. “The problem right now,” McCain said to her gal pals on The View, “is you’re taking away my agency to criticize her policy.”
According to Meghan McCain, the worst part of a crowd yelling "Send her back!" about Ilhan Omar and Trump's continued racist attacks on her is ..how McCain has lost her "agency" to be critical (see: Islamophobic) about Omar. And how it won't sell conservatism to young people. pic.twitter.com/MsszKgZP4G

Yes, amidst the Oval Office interloper’s unrelenting attacks on four freshman congresswomen, expressly designed to whip up his base into an ugly, violent frenzy, Meghan McCain is the true victim, robbed of her ability to blame Muslim Democrats for attacks on Jews without sounding like a bigot, herself. Maybe, instead of taking issue with Trump’s dangerous, inflammatory rhetoric against the four lawmakers, we should be calling him out for what he’s done to Meghan McCain. Will no one think of the conservatives who want to criticize the Somalia-born congresswoman and now feel like their hands are tied?!
