Lady Gaga posts sycophantic Adele tweet, hilariously gets ignored
With Adele smashing all kinds of records presently with “Hello,” the lead single from her much-anticipated new album 25, it’s hard not to get caught up in the swelling tide of positive publicity for the British pop superstar.
Indeed, it would seem that everyone is on the Adele bandwagon these days.
Predictably, failed pop starlet and now television intern Lady Gaga seized on the opportunity to ingratiate herself to Adele and her legions of fans by posting on Twitter a selfie she took with the “Someone Like You” singer several months ago, with a caption that suggests she had heard the singer’s new material well in advance of everyone else.
Hilariously, the tweet, despite being retweeted and liked by thousands of the “Just Dance” singer’s fake followers, went unnoticed by Adele, who was probably out enjoying a pint or two at her favourite pub in London at the time. Adele has yet to respond to the tweet.
While it remains to be seen whether or not Lady Gaga indeed got an exclusive early preview of Adele’s new music, it’s most likely a fabricated lie. After all, this is from someone who had claimed to had been a starving stripper, battled lupus, undergone hip surgery and been an avid jazz aficionado since the tender age of 13.
Meanwhile, to no one’s surprise, Adele’s “Hello” debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 this week, and has set a record for the most downloads sold in a week (1.11 million). Watch the stunning Xavier Dolan-directed video below.
