After years of watching intently and sometimes emotionally as the Grammy Awards handed out trophies in recognition of artistic achievement, technical proficiency and overall excellence in the recording industry without regard to album sales or chart position, we at Bent Spud have decided it’s time we handed out our own trophies to honor exemplary achievements in the field of music.

In keeping with the essence and spirit of what Bent Spud is all about, we have decided to call our music awards The Ninnyhammys. It’s a play on the word ninnyhammer, which means “fool” or “simpleton” (look it up, it’s a real word). We’ve even paid top dollar to get a nice design and rendering of the trophy, which features a shiny golden hammer.

Unlike the Grammys, we do not intend to follow a rigid process. We will simply pick out the winners as we see fit. There will be no permanent categories, although some categories may repeat every year. The one thing that we will have in common with the Grammys is the period of eligibility, which is between Oct. 1st of the previous calendar year and Sept. 30th of the current year. Anything released between these dates will be eligible for The Ninnyhammys the following year.

Without further ado, we present the winners of the First Annual Ninnyhammys.
