It’s undeniable that 2016 was a terrible year all around. So many great musicians passed away. Icons like David Bowie, Prince and Leonard Cohen. All taken too soon. And then there’s the matter of *cough* Donald Trump *cough*. But let’s not get into that and ruin our spirit. Instead, let’s look back at the songs that made the last 365 days at least somewhat bearable.
Machine Gun Kelly & Camila Cabello leapfrog to the summit this week with their collaboration “Bad Things” (up 17-1). Piano Magic debuts at No. 9 with “Exile.” The Queen of Pop re-enters at No. 20 with holiday favorite “Santa Baby.”
Rae Sremmurd rises to the summit with “Black Beatles (feat. Gucci Mane)” (up 3-1). Last week’s champ, The xx’s “On Hold,” falls to No.4. Jessarae jumps 6 notches to the runner-up spot with “Milk & Honey.” ZAYN & Taylor Swift lead four new entries with “I Don’t Wanna Live Forever (50 Shades Darker)” entering at No. 16.
After debuting last week at No. 13, The xx’s “On Hold” zooms into the summit, pushing the The Chainsmokers and Halsey’s 8-week No. 1 “Closer” to No. 5. Young The Giant and Rae Sremmurd surge into the Top 3 with “Silvertongue” and “Black Beatles (feat. Gucci Mane),” respectively. Jessarae is the week’s highest debut at No. 8 with “Milk & Honey.”
The Chainsmokers return to the top for an eighth nonconsecutive week with “Closer (feat. Halsey).” Ariana Grande & Nicki Minaj slide to No. 2 with their collaboration “Side To Side.” PIKOTARO hits the Top 10 with his novelty track “PPAP (Pen-Pineapple-Apple-Pen).” The xx are this week’s top debut at No. 13 with “On Hold.”
